The Winsor & Newton Art Canvas range comprises of specially selected and prepared 100% cotton medium grain canvas in STANDARD ¾ inch thick or DEEP 1½ inch thick sizes. As with all Winsor & Newton art supplies, they are manufactured to the finest quality standards. The pre-stretched primed canvas weighs 13oz/375gsm and is triple coated with two layers of highly pigmented primer and one layer of acid free sizing.
The result is a canvas offering tooth and balanced absorbency, for excellent adhesion and preventing the sinking of oil colour. All Winsor & Newton Artists' Canvases are back stapled resulting in smooth edges that can be painted on all four sides. Professional stretcher bars have superior strength and stability.
W&N Artists' Canvas are suitable for use with oils, water mixable oils, acrylics and alkyd colours and are supplied with wedges. Wedges are used to expand the stretcher if the canvas should slacken in adverse weather conditions. Wedges should be placed in the corners and tapped in with a pin hammer. Note that the need for wedges is not common however.
